The Feminine Archetype: How Do We Know Her?

Virginia Apperson, Ph.D, APRN, CS

Dr. Apperson

We are proud to present the first event in our 2008 Workshop series,
hosted by Virgina Apperson, Ph.D.

After many years working in psychiatric nursing in various settings from an inpatient adolescent chemical dependency unit, an outpatient eating disorders clinic to Grady’s psychiatric consultation-liaison service, Virginia went on to Zurich, Switzerland to train at the C.G. Jung Institute. After receiving her diploma, she returned to Atlanta where she has been in private practice in the Virginia-Highlands area since 1994. In addition to her work with individuals and couples, she leads several dream groups. Virginia is just putting the finishing touches on a book that she co-authors with John Beebe entitled The Presence of the Feminine in Film.

Program Description:

An archetypal approach to the psyche helps to break down rigid constructs that tend to define and limit our consciousness. After a brief overview of C.G. Jung’s concept of archetypes, Virginia will focus in particular on the archetypal feminine. Aspects of the feminine will be amplified with the help of film clips, dreams and personal experiences. Finally, we will look at how these qualities are expressed (or not) in our lives, within our clients and in the group process.

Goals & Objectives:

- To define C.G. Jung’s notion of archetypes

- To describe the archetypal feminine (and masculine, by way of contrast)

- To amplify feminine qualities with examples from film, dreams and personal experience

- To discuss ways that the feminine is expressed (or not) in our lives, within our clients and in the group process
