Susan P. Gantt, Ph.D., ABPP, CGP, FAGPA, FAPA, coordinates group psychotherapy training in the Psychiatry Department at Emory University School of Medicine. She is the Director of the Systems-Centered Training & Research Institute. She is a Diplomate in Group Psychology and co-author of the books Autobiography of a Theory, SCT in Action, and SCT in Clinical Practice with Yvonne Agazarian.
Heather B. Twomey, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Licensed Systems-Centered Practitioner who conducts individual and group therapy in both private practice (Carrboro & Raleigh) and public sector mental health (Central Regional Hospital), as well as trains others in SCT.
This workshop introduces the Systems-Centered® approach to group and its method of functional subgrouping. Functional subgrouping enables a group to contain the two sides of every conflict so that differences can be explored and integrated. This weakens the human tendency to avoid, stereotype, convert or scapegoat differences.
- To experience a systems-centered approach which enables therapists to understand the dynamics of both individuals and groups from a common (systems) perspective.
- To learn functional subgrouping as a method of conflict resolution.
- To learn the "fork-in-the-road" of choice between explaining conflicts and exploring them.
- To learn how to identify and modify restraining forces that inhibit growth and change.
Application for CEU's have been made for Psychologists, LMFT's, LCSW's and LPC's.
