hosted by Wendy Palmer Patterson, LCSW, M.S.W.
Wendy Palmer Patterson, LCSW, M.S.W., is a licensed clinical social worker and marriage and family therapist who has been in private practice since 1980. She has led numerous workshops and groups on relationships, communication, power, money, sexuality, roles and responsibilities. She is well known for her extraordinarily warm and empathetic style as both a teacher and a therapist. Wendy has trained with Dr. Harville Hendrix and is a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, Imago Workshop Presenter, and Imago Clinical Instructor. Wendy has presented at several Imago Relationship International conferences and twice at the Psychotherapy Networker conference.
Workshop Details
Program Description:
Imago as a Relationship Theory holds that change for couples is optimum when the couples are challenged while also being supported. The role of the facilitator is to create a zone of safety and fulfillment to encourage open sharing between partners in relationship. When this dyadic experience is placed into a group setting, couples enhance and advance one another in a synergy unrivaled by comparison. By seeing and supporting another couple’s efforts to capitalize on positive relationship dynamics and challenge negative relationship thoughts and actions, couples can open themselves to change on multiple levels. This workshop will explore the challenges and the payoffs in a couples group therapy setting.
Goals & Objectives:
- Explain the key differences that distinguish couples group therapy from individual group therapy.
- Discuss the value and application of Imago Relationship Therapy in a couples group.
- Demonstrate processes of Imago Relationship Therapy in a group environment.
- Evaluate the benefits and liabilities of couples group therapy.
- Provide criterion for successful couples groups.

Workshop Schedule:
8:30 - 9:00: Registration
9:00 - 9:45: Introduction, Experiential exercise, Introduce Imago model
9:45 - 10:30: Small group discussion, large group evaluation of discussion
10:30 - 10:45: Break
10:45 - 11:30: Discuss different ways of facilitating couples groups including advantages and disadvantages of each.
11:30 - 12:00: Demonstrate Imago group process and review key components of successful couples groups.
12:00 - 12:15: Questions & Answers.
